When catastrophe struck—whether war or natural disaster—the survivors fled across the sea to the continent now known as Thedas. There, they were met not with welcome, but by the rising Tevinter Imperium, which enslaved them for centuries. This migration fractured elven society into two paths: those who remained in the cities under human rule and those who fled into the wilderness to become the Dalish. The memory of Elvhenan became a sacred myth, kept alive through oral tradition and forbidden texts. Some scholars believe remnants of its architecture survive in places like Arlathan or within the ruins of ancient Tevinter libraries. The loss of their homeland defines elven identity today. It fuels the Dalish quest for return and the resentment felt by city elves. While some claim Elvhenan exists in the Fade, most agree it was a physical place now lost to time. Its legacy remains a ghost haunting the history of Thedas, shaping conflicts from the Chantry's view to the Qunari invasion.
